Propranalol and dizziness?
Beginning mid last week I started having episodes of feeling light-headed. Not too bad at first. But by the weekend, Friday night in particular, it was pretty bad. Yesterday while at work I almost fell while walking between offices. I made it through an interview with a candidate for a position I have open, then headed directly home at 1pm.
I saw my family physician first thing this morning. She thinks my heart is beating too slowly. I've always had a slow heart beat from years of endurance sports, but now it's too slow. My doctor thinks it's due to the Propranalol I've continued to take since originally taking it to control the heart palpitations/irregular heartbeat, as well as the hand tremors when my symptoms were at their worst. Now she thinks I no longer need it given my thyroid hormone levels are all in check. In fact it may very well be slowing my heart beat down too much. Now she thinks when I stand up or move that my heart doesn't deliver enough oxygen to my brain and I get dizzy.
So they're running a full array of blood tests and expect the results tomorrow. I've also scheduled an appointment with my endocrinologist Friday morning.
But for today, she told me to drive straight home and not to drive the rest of the day. So as I send this, I'm back to working from my home office. That's when I'm thankful for wireless laptops, blackberries, and cell phones. Both a blessing and a curse, when you need them, you need them, and today is one of those days. More to come . . .
