More from last Satuday's Graves' Disease Foundation family/patient conference that was held at the Kellogg Eye Center in Ann Arbor, MI.
At this conference, Dr. Anca Avram addressed the question of whether or not spontaneous remission is possible. Here are the stats she quoted:
Asia: > 50% chance
U.S.: 25-30% chance (19% in men and 40% in women)
She also said that in Asia the symptoms are generally less worse.
Remember that each person's Graves' Disease symptoms are uniqe, and it's hard to predict exactly what our outcomes will be. But this should give hope to those suffering with Graves' Disease that there is in fact the possibility of spontaneous remission. Please comment if you've had this experience. As for me, I'm still waiting, now over six years past diagnosis.
